1. Introduction

Substandard and falsified medical products (SFMPs) are an unacceptable and preventable threat to both individual and public health. The World Health Organization (WHO) and its Member States have developed a holistic prevent–detect–respond (PDR) strategy to tackle SFMPs as well as a complementary reporting system in the Global Surveillance and Monitoring System (GSMS).
